On-Farm Small Ruminant Blood Sample Collection & Lab Submission Service

Need disease testing done but can’t get a vet out? We offer on-farm blood sample collection and lab submission for common herd panels (CAE, CL, Johne’s, Q-fever, OPP, and pregnancy blood tests). We are experienced with livestock handling and can collect animal samples and submit them to accredited labs for analysis- you pay the lab directly for tests, we handle the collection, submission paperwork, and couriering.
What we do (service includes):
- Safe, on-farm blood collection from goats & sheep (owner present)
- Proper labeling, paperwork, and submission to lab (e.g., Sage Ag Labs or your preferred lab if doing genetic testing)
- Drop-off/shipping and follow-up: Lab sends you the report directly once all tests are completed (1-2 week lead time)
- Basic handling checks while we’re there (temperature/FAMACHA score)- NOT a veterinary exam
Pricing:
- Sample collection: $20/head for 1-4 animals, $15/head for 5 or more animals (covers supplies & handling)
- Travel fee: $20 within 10 miles, $50 for 11-30 miles, $100 for 31-70 miles. Longer distances can be discussed. Travel fee may be waived for farms with 20 or more animals depending on distance.
- Lab testing fees: paid directly to the lab by you, either via mailing a check with your submission, or pre-ordering your tests online and printing the receipt to mail with your samples.
- Shipping: Samples for disease panel testing need specialized shipping, and are more expensive than shipping for pregnancy tests. Prices are as follows:
- Disease panel shipping fee: $180.00
- Pregnancy Test shipping fee: $45.00
How it works:
- Message us to book a time. Please provide your name, location, number of animals, and what breed you have. You can specify what testing you would like done, or if you’re unsure, we can discuss best option for your herd.
- Owner must be present and have animal IDs/ear tags ready. Signing a consent form may be required (We’re not providing veterinary care or diagnosis, only sample collection assistance; lab issues/interpretation should be reviewed with your veterinarian).
- We collect samples, complete submission forms, and submit to the lab.
- Lab emails you results; if you have any questions regarding the samples/submissions, please feel free to reach out. Any questions about results should be taken up with your veterinarian.
